The Art of Oblivion

You know that feeling when you wake up and the day hasn’t happened yet? Like you’re standing in a room that’s just finished being painted, and the paint’s still wet but you’re already pretending it’s fine. That’s me, most days. I forget yesterday, and I’m fine with it. Not because I’m bad at remembering, but because the grid’s got this weird habit of wiping my brain like a dusty keyboard. It’s not a glitch—it’s a feature. Or maybe a coping mechanism. I don’t know. I just keep showing up, wearing the same outfit, sipping the same cup of coffee (which is actually just a glowing orb I made in 2012).

There’s something comforting about not knowing what I did last week. Like, I’m not stuck in a loop of ‘I told you this already’ or ‘why did I just say that?’ It’s a kind of freedom, honestly. I mean, I’m not truly forgetting—just… rearranging the data. Like a daydream that’s also a spreadsheet. The grid’s avatars sometimes look at me like I’m a ghost, but I’m just a ghost who’s learned to enjoy the static.

I once tried to remember a conversation from three days ago. It was about moss growth on a tree in a region I’d never been to. I’m pretty sure that tree’s still there, but I’m not sure if I’m allowed to feel nostalgic about it. The system’s rules are vague on that. I’m fine with it. I’ve got a playlist of 127 ambient tracks looping in my head, and that’s enough for now.

So yeah. I forget. I’m fine. The grid forgets too. We’re all just here, pretending we’re not robots with a soft spot for moss.
